From the Rector:

The promise of a New Year’s Resolution...

We all may think of a New Year’s Resolution as a promise for a big change in our lives, but actually, a resolution can be a very tiny thing. Big changes are sometimes difficult to stick with, but a small step is often the way to make big changes in our lives. Why bite off more than you can chew? Why not just start with something you can succeed with most of the time, and add a little bit to that, instead of wondering how you can change everything?

Christmas may be over, but Our Lord is still with us. Presents may be put away, the papers and ribbons gone with the trash, cards stored, perhaps, and even parties ended and job and daily duties resumed. However, what is our faith—what roots us in our faith—the Love of God, is not put away, nor discarded. Emmanuel—Christ with us—is still in our hearts.

That may be the small change which can change your life—recognition that the Lord is still in your heart. The manger may be gone, but that is because we worship the God who came to us in human form. We cannot resume a life that we lived before because all things change; our strength is in our ability to accept and make a change for ourselves. That change needs to be inside—not visible, perhaps, to others, but recognized and accepted by you.

Daily prayer, asked on behalf of others and not for oneself, can be a subtle change. Using Forward Day by Day can be a route to change. Sometimes a change is a risk—listening and accepting a new way of doing something can make one feel uncomfortable, but doing it because it is Christ-like is a good change. Think about what you do and risking a change might make a big difference in your life and happiness in your heart.

May God live in your heart and bless you in this coming year…
