A brief history
of
St. Andrew's Chapel and St. Luke's Church

1728: On December 1, an October act of the colonial Maryland General Assembly creates the Parish, which spans Northern Queen Anne's County.

1729: Sites for St. Luke's Church an Church Hill and St. Andrew's Chapel in Sudlersville were decided upon by a parish meeting on May 5th.

1730: The first St. Andrew's, "A simple wooden structure', was completed.

1732: St. Luke's was in use by this year.

1772: The second St. Andrew's, a brick structure larger than St. Luke's, was completed.

1818: With a lease from the Vestry, the trustees of Church Hill Academy erected a building north of St. Luke's for use as a day school. This building is now known as 'The Academy".

1880: The third and present St. Andrew's was consecrated on March 2nd by the first Bishop of the new Diocese of Easton.

1883: The Vestry take over the Academy and convert it to a Vestry meeting house and a Sunday School.

1953: The chancel of St. Andrew's "..was extended 10 feet to make room for choir stalls and a roomy parish house was added."

1998: Work began on a major addition to the Academy at St. Luke's.

1999: The Parish Hall was completed

2000: Air conditioning added to both St. Lukes and St. Andrews.
